Look one way and it's sapphire seas. Look the other and you've got swaying palms. That's the Hotel Orquidea in a nutshell. Nestled on the coast, its gardens and lawns run right down to the beach. And the ocean views from here are spectacular to say the least. But there's more to this place than Kodak-worthy horizons and a sandy beach.

The newly renovated Hotel Orquidea is set in the sleepy resort of Bahia Feliz and has everything you could want all in one location. Both shops and bars are within walking distance. As for the hotel itself, it is kitted out with modern and spacious split-level bedrooms most of which have a sea view.

On the food front, there's a brand new buffet restaurant with an outside terrace and a separate a la carte grill. On top of this, there is a pool bar and a new cafe too! Outside meanwhile, there's a pristine pool scene. Surrounded by lush gardens with palm trees a plenty, the enormous pool is split into three different sections. Even babies have their own splash pool here! For the more sporty types, there is a new activity pool which is great for keeping fit.

However if that all sounds like too much effort, why not relax in the newly created spa and wellness centre, where all you have to do is decide which treatment you want next! Come night-time, you can choose between relaxing in the lobby bar with a glass of your favourite tipple or enjoying the hotel entertainment programme - the choice is yours! And if you do fancy venturing further afield, the island's capital is just a short bus ride away.

My girlfriend and have just returned from a great relaxing week at the Orquidea. The rooms are very clean tidy and spacious with good sound proofing. The hotel is in a quiet location with friendly helpful staff. The food is plentiful and adequate but... more on this review
