If you're looking for a self-catering break in a peaceful setting, the gorgeous Ville di Lindos will more than hit your holiday wish list. This is a family-run complex where you'll be treated like a friend, not a room number. In fact, the atmosphere is so relaxed you'll probably leave almost horizontal!

The eye-catching studios are painted in Miami-pinks and rich terracotta colours – a striking contrast against the tropical-style gardens and turquoise-blue pool. And to add a bit more glamour – the surrounding area was the location for the filming of The Guns of Navarone. And talking of location, you're set nicely away from the hustle and bustle of the main resorts, but still within easy access of them all.

Though in all honesty – you may well want to stay put at base and who could blame you. It's home from home living here. The studios here are really spacious with contemporary decor and all the mod cons – plus most look out over the pool area and colourful gardens. There's also an on-site supermarket and the restaurant serves breakfast in the morning and Italian and Greek delights at lunch if you don't want to cook.

When you really want to kick back and shake off those stresses once and for all, step outside. Surrounded by immaculate lawns, tropical plants and plenty of sun beds and parasols, the lagoon style pool is a tranquil retreat and even has its own bar serving snacks and drinks. After dark, take a walk into town or don't move at all - just sip cocktails under the stars with music by the pool. Magical.

Ville Di Lindos is situated almost exactly half way between Lindos and Pefkos. Two more contrasting locations would be hard to imagine Lindos being the picture postcard whitewashed coastal village overlooked by the Acropolis. Pefkos is more the touristy... more on this review
